TL;DR?Striker was recommended to me, and I don't know what my friend read, but she had a different book than I did because this is a hot mess.Marni Thorn saw something she wasn't supposed to see. *eye roll* The Four now owns her, and she is theirs to do as they wish. I didn't really get it either, but it's the way it's written, so I won't argue. Now Marni is moving in with Talon Porter so he can keep an eye on her, so she doesn't tell anyone anything.At first, I thought it was just that it was derivative as I continued reading though I discovered the real travesty. No one between the editor and beta readers stopped this author from using incorrect words, misspelling them, or misunderstanding them."Reaching into his pocket, he whips out a sling blade."Talon pulls a sling blade out of his pocket? A sling blade is a fifty-inch farm tool. If he's carrying that in his pocket, he's got deep pockets."Two fingers begin trickling the seams of my panties, and then, without warning, they plummet full force inside me."Such a visual mess! Trickling is something fluid or with a flow does. Plummet is to fall. So two fingers leak at the seam of her panties, and then, without warning, they fall full force inside her. Okay, if she was upside down, but she was standing up."I pull her mouth to mine and allow our lips to melt together without movement. Stagnant like a still pond. Captivating, yet unmotivated."What? Eww. What?"Because the world can see this, and all it takes is one little peak, and we want the whole package."Peak or peek? I guess with the weird poetic license used, it could be correct how it's typed or just misused."When his groin begins vibrating off my ass at an impetuous speed, I lose complete control of my body and any sounds that escape."Rachel Leigh, who are your people? They aren't doing you favors. Impetuous is not the word you are looking for, and your editor or beta readers should have told you that. Find someone who isn't afraid to tell you what you need to hear because your people have let you release a book whose best feature is Andy Murray, the model on the cover!What's worse is that this story starts rolling into something unpredictable and promising. You have so much potential were it not for the fact that you built so much of your paragraphs on words that don't make a lick of sense.This is supposed to be a review, not an open letter to the author. So let me finish my critique. When the reveals start to come to light, there is some devilishly good stuff here. Some of it is grandiose clap-trap, but there is gold in them there reveals. They need to be dialed back by some honest feedback as to what works, though, and Talon Porter's ultimate play-out is a bit WTF because we live in a world of technology, and that can't/couldn't happen. So I'm down with the end, but IMO that part is le dumb.What's more, I didn't understand Marni's brother's angle, and I didn't know why I was supposed to care. I wish that were clearer.All in all. This book had so much potential plotwise but was a vocabulary tragedy. And it's not even all the author's fault; it's the people who read her books and don't honestly rate and review them.Do NOT recommend. A bully romance drenched in romantic suspense and seething with the need for revenge. Four childhood friends made a pact to help each other exact that revenge. This is the beginning of their story and it will leave you wanting more.Talon wants his own vigilante justice. He has a plan, friends to help make it happen and the pawn he selected to draw in his prey. Marni may have been the pawn he sought out, but this intelligent and brazen girl will not be manipulated without putting up a fight.Marni has no idea what Talon, Lars, Tommy and Zed want with her. She’s about to get dragged into their darkness as they force her to take part in their sinister plot. Her life is not simple, but the guys just made it way more complicated.Talon becomes her shadow, as he needs to control her so that his plan will play out just the way he wants. He never expected to want her. All he planned to do was use her and then toss her aside. The man who has never felt anything, feels too much around her. This complicated man carries his own pain, but Marni heals his hurt. Together they are volatile, yet when they finally stop hiding their own vulnerabilty, love begins to grow. Plans change. What started out as pure hatred turns into undeniable desire. Talon and Marni are blazing Hot!Everyone has secrets, even friends who pledge loyalty to one another. No one can be trusted. The twists will keep coming, so enjoy the story as it unfolds. The angst was intense. Just when you think you know what’s next...surprise! We only just began to scratch the surface of Tommy, Lars and Zed. There is so much more story to be told. This is not the end. The suspense was never-ending and had me on the edge of my seat. I cannot wait for more.
